I Understand The Pain You Feel About Infertility

I’ve been where you are…

When I married my husband Frank in 1995, I didn’t have a clue about infertility.

All I knew was that we wanted to start a family immediately. He had no children, and I had a son from a previous marriage, so I thought pregnancy would be a piece of (wedding) cake. How wrong I was! I became pregnant immediately and miscarried, one of the worst times of our lives.

After seeking expert advice, we were told that my eggs were getting older, and we went through several IUIs anyway. Our next options were a little unclear…

• IVF?
• Donor eggs?
• What could we afford?

We had no one to talk to about this, and were overwhelmed by confusion, worries about the cost of treatment, and fear of failure. As a result, we chose not to act, and accepted a marriage without adding a child.

Frank has helped to raise my son and we have a wonderful family today. However, the pain still lingers about what might have been. When I became a licensed counselor, I knew I had to channel that experience into a path for helping other women and families like myself.
